Living Room Plasterwork complete!

Here is a photo of our sunny living room as our newly plastered walls were drying out. (No, we havent gone mad and painted everything peach!) We had to wait one week before starting to paint for the plaster to dry out entirely.

The Beginning

We decided to start with the living room as, in our DIY ignorance, we thought it would be be the quickest room to re-decorate. However, after 4 weekends and many long hours spent stripping, sanding, re-plastering and painting we still aren’t quite finished!

We started with the removal of a dodgey built-in cupboard beside the fireplace, followed by the removal of some floral wallpaper and red carpet that was found underneath. This revealed, as expected, a cracked plaster wall in poor condition. Luckily Mikey, a Jamaican plasterer recommended to us by a friend, came by to sort it all out for ‘Mr. Flo and his missus’. One beautifully smooth plastered wall later, and we found ourselves frantically stripping yet more lining paper on the adjacent walls in preparation for a second visit from Mikey so they too could be as silky smooth.

Welcome to Behind the Blue Door

Welcome to the first posting of Behind the Blue Door. We wanted to find a better way to share our lives here in London with you, (our family and friends who live far away), and so have decided to start up this blog.

We'll mostly be telling you about the renovations in our new flat, (because since we moved in just over a month ago, the renovations have taken over our lives), but we'll also keep you updated on any other news.

So, come back soon to check in on how we are doing, behind the blue door.
