The Red House

On the weekend we had a nice break from the renovations and did a little sight-seeing with Flo's parents who were visiting. Having just spent 2 months restoring our windows, we were of course paying particular attention to the windows in Philip Webb's Red House, designed for William Morris in 1859, probably around the same time our windows were installed!

Bedroom Before & After

Nothing like some before and after photos to make us feel good about all our hard work and effort! Here is our bedroom the day we moved in, and how it looks today.

Window furniture in

We have finally completed our window restoration in the bedroom, bathroom and living room. All 5 windows had the following work done:

- Paint stripped internally
- Sash boxes repaired where required
- Re-painted (both inside and out)
- Draugh-proofed
- Exterior sills re-painted and sealed
- New window furniture installed (sash pulls & locks)

We still have the kitchen window to do, and the shutters to restore, but lets not think about that for now. Here are photos of the window furniture which went in today. You can see the draugh beads are working as our windows get fogged up when we have a shower so now we need to get in the habit of leaving the bathroom window cracked open a bit!

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving! I saw these berries on my way to work this morning, and they seemed an appropriate for the day.

On my lunch break

Today on my lunch hour I got out of the office and took a nice walk along the Southbank as the weather was so gorgeous... The tide was the highest I'd seen it in a while.

Sash Pulleys and Locks

Our satin stainless steel sash pulleys finally arrived from www.Reddiseals.com, so we will be able to finish the bedroom windows this coming weekend. We also received the 'Fitch' style window locks in satin nickle as they dont come in stainless steel and this is the closest match. We'll be installing these this week.

Last weekend our good friends Monica & Alberto journeyed across the river to come and see our flat for the first time. They brought us this Alvar Aalto style pot stand as a house warming gift and even found this sweet card which looks just like our Georgian building - we were well impressed!
